Professor Pertegás is a Professor of Law working in the area of private international law, including international commercial law, international family law and international civil procedure. She holds professorial positions at the Faculties of Law of Maastricht University (The Netherlands) and the University of Antwerp (Belgium). She has extensively researched, lectured and published on Private International Law in the European Union. She currently serves as a member of the Executive Board of the Dutch Branch of the International Law Association. Professor Pertegás was a member of the Permanent Bureau (the Secretariat) of the Hague Conference on Private International Law between 2008 and 2017. Her primary responsibility with this international organisation related to projects in the area of international civil procedure and commercial law, including the adoption of the 2015 Hague Principles on Choice of Law in International Commercial Contracts, the promotion of the 2005 Choice of Court Convention (leading to the Convention’s entry into force in 2015) and preparatory work on the 2019 Judgments Convention. Professor Pertegás has also contributed to projects of the European Union and other intergovernmental organisations, such as the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), in the area of private international law.
